Hey there...the 1st cover reveals light (a hero) coming to a dark world, it seems obvious; with the 2nd cover, the light in the sky (in the clouds) detracts from the light being expressed in the center...it becomes confusing (in the sense that)I wonder whether the light in the sky has something to do with the central light...perhaps that is what you intended...At first glance, I liked the 1st cover. I hope that helps, it is just one interpretation. Smiles to you:)

I like the first one. It's cleaner and more open. I think the second one would be great if it was a boxed trilogy.

I'm inclined to vote for the second one as well. I like the emphasis on put on the trilogy title at the top. I also like the colors of the picture more and the borders on the top and bottom are really nice.

I'm getting excited about The Waymaker.

Though I like the more classical impression I receive from the second design, I am voting for the first cover because of its aesthetics, modernity and simplicity. As to whether or not modern-over-classic is a better idea I'm of no help, but my eyes know they really likey da pretty.

I prefer the layout of the first one but I'd vote for the second one because I like the sun behind the clouds in the sky and the contrast it gives.

I'm also looking forward to the second book. :)

Hey Michael, I'm going to throw an added blend into the mix. I really like the first one because it has more light and for the reasons some have shared. And, at the same time, I like the top part of the second cover because it's bold, powerful and makes more of a statement with the Pearlsong Refounding being more noticeable. So what if, you took the top of Cover #2 and blended this with Cover #1? I'd be curious to see what this looks like. If these are your only options, I would go with Cover #2...Good luck, Shannon

#2 is much cleaner. The photo gives a clear indication of daybreak, which fits with the title. Your name and the title also stand out much better and crisper, clearer on this cover. It's also nicer to have The Pearlsong Refounding at the top.

Thank you so much everyone for your comments! Michael and I need them as we haven't been able to choose what design to go for. Choosing this cover will solidify the look and feel for the entire trilogy.

EVERY COMMENT IS APPRECIATED!!!

Hey Maynard...
Rather than an opinion, here are my observations:
In #1, what stands out to me is the title and I am drawn into the picture. It has an intriguing and mysterious feel to me. Your name is the last thing my eyes go to.

In #2, my eyes go to the Pearlsong Refounding and your name first. They both seem to be highlighted. I don't notice the title as much and although I like the light in the clouds on this photo, the image doesn't draw me in as much as the other. It seems to lose something when the darkness beneath it is eliminated.

Thanks for putting it out there and for including us in your process.

I like cover #2.

Both illustrations used are good, but the font and style of the second book are more appealing than the first, primarily because the title is all one color. I definitely pick cover #2!

I like #2.

I'm amazed at the fact that I can't find Waymaker in any library, used books or anywhere! I just finished Gideon's Dawn which I found in a clearance book rack. I loved it!

OK so when can I start putting in my order???!!!

No. 1 captures me and holds me. Makes me curious about what's inside.

I'd pick #2.
It looks like a fantasy book I'd expect to buy at a bookstore, even though the first option looks cleaner.

So yes, I pick the second one.

My vote's for the first one: the bars on the top and botom of the second one don't fit the picture.
Also I am ecstatic that waymaker is on its way to us, thanks bunches to "The three heros". :>
