The God Who Runs...Part 2

Still exploring the conditions that prompt God's Spirit to move fast, and what it means to keep pace with him when things are moving quickly...and found another circumstance in which God's Spirit races: To advance or expand his Kingdom:

"He sends for forth his command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly" (Psalm 147:15). Also, Romans 9:28.

And then, in 2 Thessalonians 3:1--"...pray for us, that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you."

For an example of his Spirit racing in this way, see Acts 2:41-47.

Life can move fast in ways that are definitely not God-inspired. Overwhelm, striving, stress and fatique are common struggles all my coaching clients face (and me too). But there is a time and a season for living fast and racing forward. The thing is, if that fast pace is set by us and not by God, if it's driven by our fear or performance or need to control, and not by his Spirit, things get screwy and our hearts get pummeled and go numb.

But sometimes he races, and invites us to match his stride. And if it's done from a place of trust and surrender, I think the effect of it on our souls is akin to the exhilaration of leaning down a mountain on a snowboard, or giving yourself over to the thrill of rafting throguh Class V rapids.

Not striving or trying to "make it all happen," just living full on in the rapid flow of his good work in the world.
